Equity and Anti-Discrimination

In 2010, a complaint against our district was submitted alleging that the district discriminated against students, parents and staff on the basis of national origin (Hispanic).

In February 2014, the district entered into an Agreement to Resolve the alleged violations with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR). While the district makes no admissions of wrongdoing or liability in connection with this complaint or OCR’s findings, this Agreement to Resolve outlines the actions Adams 14 is taking to address the alleged violations. A copy of the Agreement to Resolve may be reviewed by clicking here or, at the front office of any Adams 14 school.

The Adams 14 staff and board of education reaffirm their commitment to equity and non-discrimination in Adams 14. The district and board will not tolerate acts of harassment, including harassment based on race, color, or national origin (including harassment based on being Hispanic).

To maintain compliance, Adams 14 has implemented three strategic imperatives to support district students, families, staff and the entire community:

  • To dramatically improve academic performance and move the district from priority improvement to accredited with distinction by 2020.
  • To significantly empower all families and community members to become engaged partners in their child’s education by creating welcoming environments district-wide, that reflect and support a culturally-diverse population.
  • To intentionally increase and improve communication district-wide, both internally and externally, as well as enhance the resources offered to our current clients and community members.

If staff and/or board members are made aware of any alleged harassment or discrimination, Adams 14 will effectively respond to those allegations.  Investigations will occur promptly.

If we determine that national origin discrimination or harassment has occurred, the district will take steps reasonably designed to effectively address, prevent and respond to it. Any students, staff or administrators who have been found to have engaged in acts of harassment or other acts that create a hostile environment based on race, color or national origin will be promptly disciplined. Discipline may include suspension and/or expulsion, employment discipline and/or termination.

Anyone who believes they have been subjected to or have witnessed harassment, discrimination or a hostile environment to report this to the district by contacting the district compliance officer. Reports may be made in any language, and language translation support will be available:
