School Board Director Election Information

Two seats on the Adams County School District Board of Education will be open in November, and registered voters residing in Adams County School District 14 will have the opportunity to vote for two candidates at the November 4, 2025, election. Board members are limited to serving two consecutive elected four-year terms. The terms of current Board members can be viewed on the Board of Education webpage.

Running for School Board

A candidate for the Adams County School District 14 Board must be:

A resident and registered voter of the school district for at least 12 consecutive months prior to the election
Not be convicted of a sexual offense against a child
Because school director elections are nonpartisan, candidates may not run as a member of a political party

This timeline is not all-encompassing. It is the candidate’s responsibility to verify all dates and times and to ensure they meet all legal and financial deadlines.

August 6, 2025: First day to pick up and circulate nomination petitions. Petitions will be available to pick up between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Adams County School District 14 School Administration Building, 5291 E. 60th Ave. Commerce City, Colorado 80022.
August 29, 2025, Close of business, 4:30 p.m.: Deadline for school director candidates to file a nomination petition with circulators' notarized affidavits, notarized acceptance of nomination, and written notice of intent to be a candidate.
August 29, 2025, Close of business, 4:30 p.m.: Deadline for school director write-in candidates to file an affidavit of intent to be a candidate.
November 4, 2025: Election Day

Nomination Procedure

Colorado election law requires all candidates to file a nomination petition with the school district's designated election official (DEO). Petitions will be available to pick up between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Adams County School District 14 Administration Building, 5291 E. 60th Ave. Commerce City, Colorado 80022 from August 6 through August 29, 2025. Nomination petitions must be signed by at least 50 registered voters who live within the school district. It is highly recommended that candidates obtain more than the minimum number of required signatures in case some of the signatures are invalid. The deadline to submit nomination petitions to the designated election office is Friday, August 29th at 4:30 p.m.

Campaign Finance Filing Requirements

From the CASB School Board Candidate Guide:

School board candidates must comply with the Colorado Fair Campaign Practices Act (FCPA). All candidates must file a candidate affidavit with the Colorado Secretary of State's office within 10 days of becoming a candidate. Candidates are also required to report contributions and expenditures through the Secretary of State's online TRACER; program. These reports are required even if you spend $0.00 campaigning.

Prior to each election for school district director, a school district in which at least one thousand pupils are enrolled shall post, in a prominent area on the school district’s official website:

(A) An image of the written notice of intention submitted pursuant to subsection (2) of this section by each candidate for school district director; and

(B) Each school district director candidate’s contact information, including his or her name; residential address; mailing address, if different than the residential address; telephone number; e-mail address, if any; and website, if any. In order to post this information as inexpensively and efficiently as possible, the school district may provide hyperlinks to the area of the secretary of state’s official website, if any, containing this information.

(II) A school district subject to this paragraph (a) shall make the required postings as soon as practicable, but no later than sixty days prior to the election. The information must be organized in alphabetical order by candidate surname.

(b) Nothing in this subsection (2.5) precludes any school district from posting on its official website, or developing other methods to provide, information or resources that increase the electorate’s opportunities to learn more about school district director candidates.

(c) Any information posted online pursuant to paragraphs (a) and (b) of this subsection (2.5) shall be accomplished, to the maximum extent possible, within existing fiscal resources.
