ESOL Plan Available on the Teacher Resource Center

With the warm weather outside, it's easy to forget that we're already in November in the 2009-10 school year. I wish to take a moment to acknowledge the improvements District teams are seeing as they continue their weekly walk throughs. Specifically, we are noticing that the use of engagement strategies and explicit instruction is improving during English Language Development (ELD) time.
This week we updated the Teacher Resource Center to include the latest version of Adams 14's Literacy and Content Development Plan for English Language Learners. Additionally, we posted guidelines for using native language in the classroom. In short, there are times when it is appropriate to use a student's native language in the classroom. For example, teachers may find it necessary to use native language when establishing routines or rules for newcomers or when responding to emergency needs.
I encourage all instructional staff to review the complete documents online at http://resourcecenter.adams14.org/literacy--language.aspx.
I appreciate your commitment and evident collaborative spirit in improving education in Adams 14. I hope you enjoy the well-deserved extended holiday weekend.
